Having a bit of extra time, I decided to stop in Bago for a day. It’s only a 2-3 hour train ride from Yangon, so a day trip is a possibility. It also gives the opportunity to experience a train ride!
There isn’t much to do in the city aside from visiting religious sights, but these sites are different from most others I’ve seen. I don’t know why, but everything is scaled gigantically.
One of the most memorable sights I visited was the Mya Tha Lyaung reclining buddha. Measuring at over 80 feet, this buddha is a relatively new addition, having been built in the early 2000’s.
There’s also a huge maze of a market that sells pretty much everything, from food, to clothes, kitchenware and pottery.
