Phnom Penh is the bustling capital city of Cambodia. It’s most certainly more developed than any other city in Cambodia, with lots of expats looking to make a living or starting their second-life.
It seemed like most travellers, like myself, only go to Phnom Penh for the obligatory visit to Choeung Ek (the Killing Fields) and Tuol Sleng (S-21 Museum) or a connection elsewhere.
While repulsively depressing, shocking and brutal, visiting these sites are a must when in the city. It’ll give you a much deeper understanding of the country and its people. However, the sad thing is most of the younger Khlmers only have a bare minimum knowledge of it themselves.
Oh you’ll also notice a lot of restaurants selling happy pizza, happy shakes and other happy things. Take a second to learn what it means before you actually order it. You might get more than you’re looking for!
